Taman Negara - Malaysia's first and largest national park

Taman Negara is a local word which means National Park. So, if you called it Taman Negara National Park, I think it is inappropriate. I advised that you should try not to use National Park behind Taman Negara. The word Taman Negara is sufficient. There are numerous accommodation operators offering good rates for dormitory, chalets and resort room near the main entrance to Taman Negara. The biggest player in the local tourism industry promoting this park is Ping Anchorage, Hans Travel, and a few others. Check out Ping Anchorage's rate along with Hans Travel. Pretty good rate but if you need really budget accommodation, just look for the local chalet operator which offers very very low price. But don't demand too much for the little amount that you are paying though.

So, let me just brief you about Taman Negara.

This national park which was established in 1938, is a showcase of Malaysia unique biodiversity. It is 4,343 sq km (about 1,680 sq m). For birders, there are over 300 species of birds. For animal enthusiast, watch out for the mammals from the hides built for wildlife observation. There are times, when you are lucky you get to see tapir or cipan in local language.

There are numerous trails for you to explore - so stick to the well marked trail and try not to be too adventurous by starting your own trail. Take the boat trips, explore the caves and do a little fishing if you are a die hard angler.

The world's longest canopy walkway is located in Kuala Tahan. Don't miss it. If you want to conquer the highest peak in peninsular Malaysia, try going up Mount Tahan. It takes 7 days 6 nights to go up and down but if you have less time, try the 4 days 3 nights trail which starts from Merapoh.
